Individuals – Concession fee Initial Session (50min) | $205 | $93.35 | $111.65 |

Medicare Rebate
Although it is not necessary to have a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) to see a psychologist, this could reduce the cost of treatment. If you, or your child receive a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician, you are entitled to a Medicare rebate for up to 10 sessions in a calendar year (1 January to 31 December). Your clinician will write a referral letter and please bring both the letter and MHTP to your initial consultation (or have the GP email the documents), otherwise you will be unable to receive your rebate from Medicare. On the day of the consultation, you will be required to pay the full fee. Medicare rebates are processed into your account following your appointment.
You can claim up to six initial sessions in a calendar year, with a provision for an additional four if required (ten sessions in total in a calendar year). The GP Mental Health Treatment Plan expires after 12 months from the date of referral.
Private Health Insurance
Many private health funds provide rebates for psychology services. Please contact your private health provider to discuss eligibility requirements before making an appointment. After payment you will be provided with a receipt, which you can use to make an online claim with your private health fund.
Please note that due to Medicare guidelines, you are unable to use both a Medicare Rebate and Private Health Fund for the same appointment.
Couples Counselling
Type of session | Fee |
---|---|
Couples – Initial session (90min)* | $325 |
Couples – Subsequent sessions (50min) | $245 |
* I recommend that couples book a 90-minute session for at least the first two appointments
Please note that Medicare currently does not provide rebates for couple’s therapy.
Assessment & Report Fees
Assessment sessions take places after the intake phase has been finalised and the needs of the client have been clarified. The assessment sessions consist of sessions with the client (and/or their parents) and time is set aside to score, analyse and interpret the results.
A report is recommended when a diagnosis is given (which is not always the case), so that the report can be provided to teachers, other clinicians and for future reference in case of ongoing treatment.
Assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder for children up to 13 years of age are eligible for a Medicare rebate, with a referral from a paediatrician or consultant psychiatrist. For more info, visit this page.
The fee for the NDIS Access Report depends on the complexity of the client’s disability. The fee for the NDIS Review Report depends on the number of assessments performed, the number of goals evaluated and the complexity of the client’s disability. Report writing is charged per hour.
Please note: Medicare currently does not provide rebates for cognitive assessments or psychological reports. Furthermore, although Sunny Psychology assesses cognitive functioning, we do not provide a diagnosis for Learning Disorders as this requires additional testing. When symptoms are suggestive of a type of Learning Disorder, a referral to a psychologist on the Sunshine Coast for further assessment will be provided.
